My Wyndham: Nadine Manzella

Nadine Manzella has lived in Werribee since she was five years old. The 28-year-old is helping new Wyndham mums to give babywearing a go.

How long have you called Wyndham home?

I have lived in Wyndham for 23 years. We lived across the road from Werrribee Primary School, which I attended up to grade 6 then
I went to Werribee Secondary College.

What’s your favourite thing about Wyndham?

I love the ease of access. Everything you need is in our city. Our plaza has everything and we have fantastic libraries.

What would you change about this area?

I would love to see more reliable public transport, especially the train system.

How did you get involved in the Babywearers Out West group?

I was a new mum using a hug-a-bub stretchie wrap and loved the idea of the fourth trimester – carrying my baby close to me, aiding in the bonding and breastfeeding relationship. I stumbled across Babywearers Out West on Facebook, attended a meet that week and never looked back.

How often do you meet and where?

We are a travelling meeting so we meet twice a month in different locations. On the second Thursday of the month we meet in inner western suburbs and on the last Monday of the month in outer western suburbs.

How can the group help mums living in Wyndham?

We can provide a caring and supportive environment where we can teach parents and caregivers of young children how to carry their young close to them. We can trouble-shoot, show you how to use a stretchy wrap or ring sling and work with you on carrying with a woven wrap. We have a sling library which has a bunch of the most popular carriers for parents to try.

Where is your favourite place in Wyndham to get a meal or coffee?

I love to get a quick coffee at Chatterbox Cafe.
