The proposal to redevelop part of Werribee’s central area under the Housing Commission’s urban renewal scheme has reached the critical second stage of submitting a proposal. The scheme has been described as being able to provide an important innovation for the area.

A repeat of the 1983 floods in Werribee could see even more houses under water, a town planner has warned. Town planner and licensed surveyor Merv Smith, of Werribee, told the council the development of a site off Wedge Street could result in houses untouched by the 1983 flood being inundated.

Wyndham City Council is planning to double the size of the vital Werribee Street bridge. The bridge, one of only two main roads leading out of Wyndham Vale and into the Werribee central district, has become a traffic nightmare in peak hours.

Two repeat drink-drive offenders caught with children in their vehicles were among dozens of motorists flouting the law on Wyndham’s roads in the past week. Werribee police’s traffic management chief, Sergeant David Hickson, was appalled by the results.
