September 17, 1975

Interest is at a peak in the competition for endorsement by major parties of candidates for the new Legislative Assembly seat of Werribee. The Labor Party will make its decision tomorrow night. The contest for the Liberal Party endorsement has boiled down to a competition between the two major centres in the new electorate, Melton and Werribee.

September 18, 1985

Werribee Hospital’s bid for better facilities is supported by a “groundswell of public opinion”, manager John Williams says. When he meets Health Department officials early next month, his claim will have tangible support in the form of a petition started by the Werribee Citizens Advice Bureau. CAB representative Clarice Hinksman collected 200 signatures within two days and hopes for many more.

September 20, 1995

Tireless community worker and Wyndham’s second citizen of the year, Lex Cameron, has died aged 76. Mr Cameron, who died after a long illness, was farewelled on Friday by about 200 mourners at a service in St Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greaves Street, Werribee. Mr Cameron settled in Werribee in 1969.

A six-goal final quarter wasn’t enough to save the day as Sandringham edged out the Werribee Tigers by nine points at Optus Oval to secure the VFL premiership. In contrast, Werribee Juniors had a stirring one-point victory over Spotswood in the under-18A WRFL grand final.
