This 40-page issue of the Banner celebrates the opening of the promotion of Werribee – Supermaket of the West. This campaign has the purpose of placing before the public of Werribee Shire the wide range of goods and services available in their own district.

October 16, 1985

Werribee ratepayers will face a 2.8 per cent rate increase this year in what acting Shire Secretary Peter Jordan described as a status quo budget. The rates were struck at Monday night’s meeting of the Werribee Council and the increase will take the rates up half a cent in the dollar to 18 cents for the general rate.

Not afraid to tackle the hard issues, students from the Westbourne School in Hoppers Crossing took part in the ninth annual Victorian Youth Parliament. The students made up the only team to have their Bill passed through both Houses of the mock-government.

The Werribee District Hospital Charitable Foundation has been left a bequest of $1 million by well-known resident Vera Davis, who died in January, three months shy of her 103rd birthday. Miss Davis requested in her will that the foundation set up a perpetual trust in her family’s honour.
