1975

40 years ago

November 12, 1975

The appeal by a development company against the failure of the Board of Works to grant them a permit to establish a large shopping centre at Hoppers Crossing has been rejected. Counsel for Werribee Chamber of Commerce and other business interests Mr K Clifford successfully submitted the tribunal which heard the appeal did not have the power to override the existing planning scheme.

 

1985

30 years ago

November 13, 1985

Cathy and Joe Cassar will be watching where their seven children play if a proposed $1.5 million shooting complex goes ahead. Bullets will be flying directly along the boundary fence of their 40-hectare property.

 

1995

November 15, 1995

Almost $60,000 damage was caused to Werribee Park Golf Club last week when heavy rain turned the Werribee River into a raging torrent that swamped 11 holes of the 18-hole course. The flood waters have left holes in the fairways, damaged greens and bunkers and crippled the course’s irrigation system.

Most golfers go through life without an elusive hole-in-one – but not Werribee youngster Braden Borg. The seven-year-old scored an ‘ace’ after playing for just six months. Braden achieved golf’s holy grail on the 75 metre sixth hole at SISTEMS golf course in Hoppers Lane.
