40 years ago

June 4, 1975

Werribee Shire councillor Neville Hudson has announced his intention to seek Liberal Party pre-selection for the newly-created Legislative Assembly seat of Werribee. The seat was created as a result of a redistribution of boundaries throughout the state. The seat is composed of Werribee Shire, Melton Shire and part of Deer Park.


30 years ago

June 5, 1985

The history of Werribee’s first 100 years is now down on paper, between hard covers and available in the shops. The book Werribee: The First One Hundred Years, edited by history and geography teacher Ken James for Werribee Historical Society, was launched by shire president John Gibbons last Friday.


20 years ago

May 31, 1995

The terror of a recent street hold-up has led to a Werribee woman’s decision to close her hairdressing business and call for a clamp on teenagers wandering the streets armed with weapons. The woman decided to withdraw her business because of the attack, its after-effects on her nerves and the ongoing harassment by youths roaming the shopping centre.

June 1, 2005

Werribee Magistrates Court users believe a decision to arm police officers in court – contrary to normal statewide convention – is a “recipe for disaster”. Police officers have been wearing side-arms in the tiny courtroom for the past three weeks.
