40 years ago

May 28, 1975

A group of angry parents confronted four former teachers who returned to Werribee High School on Monday after disciplinary charges brought by the department were dismissed by the teachers’ tribunal. The teachers, who refused to accept transfers to other schools in February, were in the forefront of moves to introduce new teaching methods in opposition to the principal in 1974.


30 years ago

May 29, 1985

The Werribee council on Monday night took the first step in what could be a massive cost-cutting campaign. A special budget review committee was established to examine current financial performance and evaluate levels of service that might be reduced. Within minutes of the committee being established, a $100,000 program to computerise Werribee library’s catalogue system was referred to it.


20 years ago

May 24, 1995

A young Werribee man is afraid for his life after being robbed and abducted at knifepoint from South Kensington railway station. About a fortnight ago, in daylight, an armed man forced the 21-year-old to board a train and did not allow him to disembark until they reached Footscray station.


10 years ago

May 25, 2005

A 67-year-old Hoppers Crossing man was killed on Sunday when his motorcycle crashed near Steiglitz during a charity ride to help orphaned children. No other vehicles were involved and in investigation into the accident is under way. The crash occurred as the man joined 37 other members of the Westgate Wanderers Ulysses Motorcycle Club on a 280-kilometre ride from Hoppers Crossing.
