My Wyndham: Qin Yu, Point Cook

Wyndham council is collecting stories from residents about their vision for the city in 25 years’ time. Point Cook resident Qin Yu shares her Wyndham 2040 Project story.

What’s your connection to the community?

I’ve been a Point Cook resident for two years and have joined lots of social activities like the English class at the Point Cook Community Learning Centre. I started a social group called Meet Up, which has now grown into a large group. I also enjoyed the Building Blocks Leadership course and am participating in Relay for Life for breast cancer awareness.

What do you like most about Wyndham?

I really like the Point Cook Community Learning Centre – the library and all of the social groups available. The amenities make it very easy for the residents and the layout is perfect. Being from China, we didn’t experience big council events or much caring for residents. Here we have great resources and events, like the learning centre birthday party where I was able to catch up with friends and have fun.

What do you hope Wyndham will be like in 2040?

The services need to match the rapid population growth, including for the Chinese population that is quickly growing. What I desire for Wyndham is quality education services like kindergartens, schools and universities. I would like to see more good schools and educational settings, especially with young people coming from all over the world.

I hope that there is more for older people, especially if they don’t have family around to support them.
