The imposition of a $70 minimum rate and budgeting for a $26,000 deficit has enabled Werribee Shire Council to keep the rise in rates to an absolute minimum. But the rural rate has risen sharply overall by an average of 35.7 per cent.

Owners of Laverton South kit homes are furious over comments about the homes by East Riding councillors Kevin Skehan and Stuart Southwick at a recent meeting of Werribee council. Cr Skehan said the homes were a disgrace and some were no bigger than dog kennels.

Plans for Wyndham’s long-awaited community health centre are back to square one, with the Department of Human Services re-assessing the project. The department has shelved the original plans, which surfaced in 1992, on the grounds they are now obsolete in favour of a complete re-assessment of the centre.

A lone protester is waging war on Werribee Secondary College over claims teachers are being bullied and denied advancement because of their gender. Alison Coad has been protesting outside the school on most afternoons for the past three weeks on behalf of friends who teach at the school. Principal Steve Butyn vehemently denied the claims.
