November 20, 1974

Werribee central shopping centre was overwhelmingly confirmed as the future location of any regional shopping centre when council debated the subject for a second time in a month on Monday night. In two votes council refused to reverse last month’s decision to affirm the central area as the future main centre and its decision not to rezone land for a major centre at Hoppers Crossing.

November 21, 1984

Evictions of women and children from Commonwealth houses at Laverton are brutal, cruel and unworthy of the Labor Party, says Uniting Church Minister and president of the ALP Altona branch, Reverend Bernie Long. Mr Long is supported by ALP branches in the west, which have expressed disgust over the decision to evict the deserted families of RAAF personnel.

November 23, 1994

A Werribee mother has renewed calls for speed humps in Vincent Crescent after a car struck her daughter there last Wednesday. The distraught mother described the accident as “unnecessary”, adding it could have been avoided if speed humps had been installed in the street.

A united push to establish a trade training centre in Wyndham has taken a major step forward, with the council, the city’s secondary schools, along with industry and business groups and Victoria University, supporting a proposal for the centre put forward by the Wyndham Local Learning and Employment Network.
