40 years ago

June 5, 1974

The booking of motorists illegally parked in Werribee on polling day, Saturday, May 18, was attacked by Cr Neville Hudson at last week’s meeting of Werribee Shire Council. He foreshadowed a motion that no summonses be issued for parking infringements on that day without council authorisation.

June 6, 1984

Werribee is outgrowing its hospital facilities at an alarming rate, according to Liberal candidate Peter Hudson. He has released figures that show the shire already has a bed-to-patient ratio far lower than the state average.

20 years ago

June 1, 1994

Victorian Racing Club officials were forced to call off a meeting at the Werribee Racecourse after just two races last Tuesday, leaving the club more than $40,000 out of pocket. The race meeting was the first held at the course since drainage works began in March. The meeting was abandoned after 80 per cent of jockeys in the third race refused to ride because they believed the track was too dangerous.

June 2, 2004

Wyndham’s police are struggling to adequately serve the municipality’s booming northern and western reaches, prompting a council vow to back moves to ease the burden. The council this week committed itself to supporting a push for a second police station to be opened in Werribee.
