Safe is the word I would use to describe Bob Fairclough’s response to last week’s state budget, and I think we deserved more.
I believe we needed to rattle a few cages. Yes, the East West Link got funding. Yes, the Regional Rail Link got the go-ahead. But both of those are not specific western suburbs projects. We will have a new prep to year 9 school in Point Cook, and stage two of Truganina prep-9 is going ahead. Big deal.
Band-Aid solutions just don’t cut the mustard any more. It’s an election year, which makes it the perfect time to play hardball, and our mayor has missed the boat big time.
Take this quote as an example of the tone of the response: “There are specific projects requested by Wyndham City Council which don’t appear to have been funded in this budget, including duplication of Dohertys Road, Davis Creek Primary School and upgrades to Werribee Mercy Hospital.”
Either they have been funded or not, and to meekly address it in this way is not good enough for the ratepayers of Wyndham.
The tacit rebuking of the lack of specific funding for the East Werribee Employment Precinct was also weak: “Wyndham City hopes the state government will continue to invest new money into the development.”
Hope? Let’s just change the name of our city from Wyndham to Doormat and be done with it. Your thoughts are welcome. Post a comment below.
You are not TV stars
Isn’t it always grand to see one of the major television channels lead the news with a story about our suburb. Last Saturday night, Channel 7 led with the hoons of Morris Road.
Not only did they have footage of the late- night burnouts at the Morris-Heaths roads intersection, but they had an interview with two blokes who claimed to be part of the group involved.
Well, I am sure their parents and friends would have been proud that they were on the television, justifying this totally unacceptable behaviour. I trust the local police take this to the next step. They are not TV stars, they are people who need to be accountable.
