MY WYNDHAM: Darryl Wells, Werribee

Darryl Wells has led a busy life. A Werribee CFA captain for more than 30 years, he has been volunteering at Point Cook’s RAAF museum since 1988.

What’s your favourite place to get coffee and a bite to eat?

Probably Elio Italian Family Bistro on Old Geelong Road in Hoppers Crossing, just near the railway station. It’s a great pizza restaurant.

Where’s your favourite retreat spot?

On the Werribee River – it is Werribee’s best asset.

I like to spend time upstream, downstream, anywhere along the river. I like to go fishing, especially for trout.

What changes would you like to see in your neighbourhood?

The traffic’s slow in the town and some railway lines would be good, especially towards Wyndham Vale.

What wouldn’t you change?

I wouldn’t like to see the Weerama Festival disappear. It brings the community together. It’s good for the kids, good for the teenagers and involves a lot of the community. And the street parade is great.

Why did you decide to volunteer for the RAAF museum?

The history. I grew up in Werribee and we used to have a farm about five miles away, so it was always of interest to me.
