Answering the call to participate

Cops, ambos, fireys and other emergency services workers are gearing up for the annual Victoria Police and Emergency Games next month.

The games, now in their 34th year, are expected to be the biggest yet with more than 3000 competitors expected to take part across Victoria.

Among the participants will be Werribee paramedics Karinda and Hayley.

Karinda will feature in basketball and Hayley in swimming and soccer.

Hayley said the games were a nice way to have fun with colleagues.

Karinda added: “It’s a great way to build relationships outside the work environment with other emergency services and law enforcement workers”.

Wyndham will host a pair of games events. The equestrian competition will be held at the National Equestrian Centre in Werribee and bowls will be played at WynCity in Point Cook.

At the launch of the games late last month, Emergency Services Minister Jane Garrett said the event provided an opportunity for law enforcement and emergency services workers to spend time away from the more serious side of their work.

“The games give our everyday lifesavers a chance to take some time out to enjoy themselves away from the pressure of their jobs,” she said.

The games will start on Friday, April 8.
