Dramatic scenes unfolded in a car park at Pacific Werribee yesterday morning, as police chased two men believed to be responsible for a spate of car thefts.
Senior constable D Musolino said the offenders were located at the shopping centre car park trying to steal number plates while travelling in a stolen white Volvo hatchback.
One of the men was arrested at the scene, but the second took off on foot.
The man arrested yesterday is appearing at Sunshine Magistrates Court today, charged with attempted burglary, theft of motor vehicle, and theft of number plates.
Police continued to search for the second man, and he was located and arrested outside the Melbourne Magistrates Court this afternoon.
He is yet to be questioned by police.
“They have allegedly stolen three vehicles and six sets of number plates,”Senior constable Musolino said.
He said it was yet to be determined where the two men are from.
