Werribee cafe receives timely boost

Werribee has bragging rights to the best coffee in the west.

Black Seed Cafe, on Watton Street, has been ranked as number one cafe in the area spanning as far as Gisborne and Bacchus Marsh.

Co-owner Fay Albaz said she was in tears when she heard the news.

“It made everything worthwhile,” she said. “All those breakdowns, all that hard work since we opened 14 months ago, it was all worth it in the end.”

The idea of Black Seed Cafe came to a Fay and her husband Waleed two years ago.

“We were frustrated travelling to Brunswick and South Yarra for decent meals and coffee,” she said.

“It was always our dream to have our own cafe, and with the growing population here, we thought Werribee was the place to do it.”

She described the cafe’s menu as Australian, with a modern Middle Eastern twist.

“Our best menu item is definitely the smashed avocado and baked eggs,” she said.

Waleed, the cafe’s coffee guru, said the best coffee they had to offer was the latte and the short black.

“Our coffee beans are Sensory Lab (Port Melbourne) and Humbled Harry (Craigieburn),” he said.

“What sets us apart from the rest is our ability to take feedback on from our customers.

“We always ask our customers what they thought, and we definitely listen to try and better ourselves.”

The cafe was voted first on cafe review app Beanhunter. The winner is selected based on user reviews and ratings regarding the service, coffee selection, and food.
