Spans bring Sneydes Road relief closer

Construction of a $45 million Sneydes Road interchange project has reached a milestone with 70 bridge beams having been lifted and positioned above the Princes Freeway to form the new overpass deck.

Each concrete beam weighs between 36 and 50 tonnes.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said that with new entry and exit ramps from Sneydes Road, motorists would have easier access and a better connection to the freeway when heading towards Melbourne or Geelong.

“The interchange will ease congestion and significantly improve access from Werribee and Point Cook to the freeway,” Mr Pallas said. “The project will improve travel times for local residents and provide local jobs closer to home.”

The existing Sneydes Road overpass remains open while the new overpass and northern ramps are constructed.

Once works are complete, the existing overpass will be demolished to allow construction of the interchange’s southern ramps.

The new overpass is part of the state government’s $71 million East Werribee Transport Improvements Project, which includes widening Sneydes Road and upgrading the Princes Highway at the Sneydes Road and Hoppers Lane intersections.

The Sneydes Road interchange is expected to be completed by late 2016.
