The state government is splashing cash around Wyndham, with 13 sports clubs sharing the windfall to pay for coaching courses, first-aid equipment and uniforms.
Among the beneficiaries is Werribee Hockey Club, which received $2000 for coaching and umpiring development.
Wyndham District Hockey League administrator Lynette Tout said the money would be well spent.
“In order to become an accredited hockey coach or umpire, people need to do a course, a practical course, and then register with Hockey Australia,” she said.
“All our coaches are volunteers and it can be quite costly to become accredited. This funding will encourage members to take up a volunteer position.”
Ms Tout said the $2000 would also fund accreditation programs for up to five coaches and five umpires.
Point Cook’s football and netball clubs will also receive money for equipment and uniforms, as will Sanctuary Lakes Cricket Club, Tarneit Masters Football Club, Werribee Little Athletics, Wyndham Lacrosse Club and Wyndham Suns Football Club.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said: “The Werribee community just loves its sport and our clubs aim for the skies.
“With new equipment and improved resources, there’s no telling what they can achieve.”
