A Point Cook family is spreading Christmas cheer and raising money for sick children this festive season.
John and Carol Gorry started adorning their Dunnings Road house with Christmas lights and other decorations three years ago for their two grandchildren.
The display has grown bigger each year and now boasts inflatable trees, Santa and his reindeer, and thousands of lights.
An inflatable stable to house the reindeer will be erected this month and Mr and Mrs Gorry will hand out lollies to visiting children.
The display will stay up until New Year’s Eve.
In the past, it has attracted up to 100 locals on weekend evenings. Last year, the couple raised almost $800 for the Cancer Council by leaving out a bowl for people who wanted to donate. This year, they hope to raise a similar amount for the Starlight Foundation, which grants wishes to seriously ill children.
“We’ve had a rough trot with people with cancer the past couple of years and as we have grandkids, we wanted to raise some money for Starlight,” Mrs Gorry said.
Mr Gorry said the display took about three weeks to put up each year, with some items –especially inflatables – needing to be brought in and out each night.
