More double-decker buses could be driving around Wyndham under a plan by bus operator CDC Melbourne.
Public Transport Victoria has confirmed that it’s evaluating a proposal from CDC to operate additional double- decker buses in the region.
CDC introduced the state’s first public transport double-decker bus in June this year to shuttle passengers between the new Regional Rail Link stations at Wyndham Vale and Tarneit via route 190, with more promised if there was sufficient demand.
The double-decker bus was part of an overhaul of the Wyndham bus network that added 2300 weekly bus trips to the region.
According to PTV, more than 16,000 commuters used the double-decker bus between June 21 and September 30.
The bus, which is running as a trial service, has 88 seats and capacity for 111 passengers, giving it the highest seating capacity of any vehicle on the network.
Recent PTV figures reveal the new Wyndham bus network is extremely popular, with more than 14,500 passengers using the service every week.
That is a 25 per cent increase on last year’s figures.
