A later peak in the flu season has spurred a shortfall in donor appointments at Werribee blood bank, so residents are being urged to roll up their sleeves and help out.
The Australian Red Cross blood service needs almost 500 blood and plasma donors from Werribee because of a greater number of cancellations over the winter months this year.
On average, as many as 28 per cent of donors cancel their appointments, mainly due to colds and flu.
Blood service spokeswoman Erin Lagoudakis says giving blood feels great, it takes only an hour, and donors get to relax and enjoy Australia’s best [choc-chip] biscuit and a cup of tea afterwards.
“We’re challenging Werribee locals to crumb on down and give blood at this time of need,” she said. “We believe it’s the best biscuit because it’s the only one that saves lives.
“Right now, we still need almost 500 biscuit-loving donors to roll up their sleeves and help us overcome this cold and flu problem.”
Ms Lagoudakis says the Werribee blood bank offers free wifi, friendly staff and a comfortable experience.
