A Point Cook West school will receive a $5000 grant to help fund an environmental project.
Stella Maris Catholic Primary School applied for the grant in the hope of funding a learning and play zone featuring swale bridges and seating.
The space will be used by students to learn about water management, runoff and filtration.
Stella Maris beat 12 other local schools to win the CUA Werribee bank grant after receiving the most votes from Wyndham residents, who were asked to preference projects submitted by local schools .
Principal Stephen Harrison welcomed the funding and thanked the community for its support.
“We have an amazing community here – families always put a lot of effort into fundraising,” Mr Harrison said.
Major earthworks will be undertaken in stage one of the project, while stage two will bring construction of the bridges, planting of native grasses and trees, and installation of Indigenous artwork.
Mr Harrison said work would start early next year.
CUA Werribee local area manager Kateena Cookson said it had been exciting to watch the community get behind the 13 schools by voting.
“Any of the projects would have been worthy winners. It’s been inspiring going out to visit the schools and learn about the projects.”
