MP helps push for Williams Landing school

Williams Landing residents are calling for a school in their expanding community.

They have made a submission outlining their concerns to Western Metropolitan MP Bernie Finn, who raised the issue in State Parliament on August 20.

“I’m informed that research shows families in Williams Landing are facing serious schooling issues and that the situation will get worse in the very near future,” Mr Finn told Parliament.

“Williams Landing has no school and, from what I understand, there are no plans for a school there in the foreseeable future.’’

Forecasts for the area show the suburb’s population will grow to more than 3500 families in the next decade, with up to 5000 children.

Mr Finn told Star Weekly the majority of people moving to Wyndham were young families with young children.

“The last thing we need is what’s happened in Point Cook, where they moved all the people in and there was very little infrastructure to support them. [Williams Landing] is one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the city of Wyndham, and the city of Wyndham itself is one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia,” Mr Finn said.

“There are more people moving into the area and there needs to be infrastructure to support that growth.”

Mr Finn said Alamanda Estate in Point Cook was only half the size of Williams Landing yet the school there was almost at enrolment capacity, while two schools were planned for the Saltwater Coast estate.
