Manor Lakes College locked down after threat

Manor Lakes P-12 College went into lockdown for 25 minutes last week after a teacher overheard a man threatening the school.

Assistant principal Michael Laird said the school initiated its lockdown procedures just before 1pm on Wednesday after a member of staff heard a man make a verbal threat against the college.

“We lifted the lockdown after 25 minutes, following advice from police who responded,” Mr Laird said.

Wyndham police inspector Frank Sells said the incident was a false alarm.

“A couple of people walked through the school,” he said.

“It appears they may have been intoxicated and it was believed one of them may have said they had a gun, but no firearm was sighted.”

It was the second threat made against a Wyndham school in as many weeks.

On August 21, a threat was made on social media regarding PointCook Secondary College, resulting in police guarding the front gates as classes wrapped up for the week.

Detectives from Wyndham’s crime investigation unit last week interviewed a 16-year-old boy over the Point Cook threats.

He was released pending further inquiries.

Inspector Sells said both incidents proved their response training had paid off.

“We’re pretty well across this,” he said. “We had everything in place really, really quickly.”
