Wyndham Rising Star’s girl-power sing-off

The final five contestants sang their hearts out in a sizzling semi-final showdown last week, part of Wyndham’s Rising Star competition.

Claudia Appaduray, Taylah Jade and Amber King are through to next month’s grand final after impressing judges and scoring the highest number of online votes.

The Universal School of Music, in partnership with Wyndham council and Hotel 520, is giving emerging young artists and singers the chance to showcase their talents and compete for prizes and kudos.

Ms Appaduray wowed with her take on Kelly Clarkson’s

Breakaway and Rihanna’s Take a Bow, while Ms King maintained her country roots with renditions of Patsy Cline and Jeff Buckley’s Hallelujah.

Having recently turned 17, Ms Jade is the competition’s youngest singer. She had the audience singing along to her version of the Jason Mraz classic I’m Yours.

Fellow contestant Casey Freeman performed some original songs, while wildcard from round two, Joanna Millett, used her jazz and cabaret background to create unique interpretations of pop songs – but neither was able to get a big enough online vote to progress through to the finals.

The top three will go head-to-head in the grand final on September 17 for the chance to win a professional music scholarship valued at $25,000.

Tickets for the grand final are now on sale. Call 9395 0695 for bookings.
