Bowls Victoria: Werribee on a four-game streak

Travel no longer warrants a code red for Werribee in the Bowls Victoria division 1.

The Bees’ much-documented woes on the road seem to be a thing of the past as their four-game winning streak indicates.

Each of their past two trips away from Watton Street have been victorious, with Saturday’s 90-74 win against Bundoora RSL the most impressive.

Bees skip Snowy Barker said his team might have caught the travel bug.

“We probably go away now expecting to win,” he said.

It was a huge win for the Bees, consolidating a top four berth at the halfway mark of the season. They leap-frogged Bundoora into third position and are not far off the pace of ladder-leaders Richmond Union and Deer Park.

“We’re only about five points off the top now, but we’ve just spoken about the block of games coming up that will probably shape our season,” Barker said.

“We play Kingsbury at home and we want to turn the tables back on them, MCC away, which we should win … and we get a crack at Deer Park at home. That’s the block we’re worried about at the moment.”

The Bees will garner a world of confidence out of their 16-shot win against a highly rated Bundoora side.

Barker led the way for the Bees with a thumping 15-shot win. Rob Panton finished up six, while Mick O’Neil was up two. Peter Ware’s seven-shot loss was the only blot in the copybook for the Bees.

“Everyone might be jelling better together now,” Barker said. “We’re confident with where we’re at.”
