VSDCA: Tigers bundled out with tails between legs

WERRIBEE suffered a humiliating exit from the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association second XI finals.

The Tigers were horrendous in a 70-run qualifying final loss to Yarraville at Chirnside Park on Saturday.

Their fate was sealed early on when they were rolled for just 86 in 40.5 overs, with tailenders Ryan Alifraco underlining his side’s plight with a top-score of 25 not out.

Yarraville had no issues with time or wickets in hand, passing the target three down and building an unassailable lead with 156 on the board.

The news was better for the Tigers’ third XI which advanced to the semi-finals after winning a spiteful encounter over Plenty Valley by 66 runs at Soldiers Reserve.

The Tigers eked out an unconvincing 138 on day one after rescue acts from middle-order batsman Alex Shanks (37 not out) and Chandula Ratnayake (22).

Plenty Valley fell well short in its chase, all out for 72. Tight bowling from Ratnayake (3-34), Tim Gage (2-8), James Doolan (2-12) and Shanks (2-12) made life unpleasant for the visiting batsmen.

The Tigers will host Brunswick in a do-or-die two-day semi-final starting on Saturday.
