ALLOWING Davis House to stay on its Watton Street site would hinder development in Wyndham, according to Cr John Menegazzo.
At last week’s council meeting, Cr Menegazzo said there were investors, property owners and developers waiting to see how the council handled the Davis House issue before committing to their plans for the city.
“This does not bode well for jobs creation opportunities and the investment of millions of dollars.
“I am confident the vast silent majority of residents in the city would consider the possible threat of the potential losses of significant investment in jobs as a worse outcome than the possible demise of a property which I believe has questionable historical significance.”
Cr Menegazzo’s claims were dismissed by Wyndham Heritage Recovery Group’s Harry van Moorst, who said it was wrong to suggest the decision would affect future developments, because not every building in Wyndham was of historical significance.
