WorkSafe fines Werribee farm over woman’s death

A Werribee vegetable grower has been fined $80,000 following the death of a woman in a farm accident in 2008.

Katarina Hrecesin, 61, died in December 2008 after she was run over by a reversing truck in the driveway of a Werribee South farm, run by J and K Zausa Investments.

Perica Simic, who ran a labour hire company that supplied workers to the property, was also fined $15,000 by judge Irene Lawson in the Melbourne County Court last week.

WorkSafe’s director of operations, Lisa Sturzenegger, said the penalties should send a message about what could happen when appropriate standards were not in place or maintained.
