Dixieland dancing at Chirnside Park

CROWDS will be swinging and dancing up a storm to ragged ‘trad jazz’ tunes next week when the Werribee Jazz Club hosts its monthly music night.

Saxophone, double-bass, banjo, brass, keys and drums will provide the recipe for scene-setting Dixieland and ragtime music, sure to echo all the elegance and excitement of the early 20th century.

Club president Margaret Hammon and Fran Stivey are encouraging residents to put on their dancing shoes, see the Night Owls perform and meet new friends.

“Particularly in the 40s and 50s age group, there’s nowhere else to go really, but this is somewhere you can go and dance,” Ms Hammon says.

The music night is on at Chirnside Park Bowls Club on Saturday, April 21. Cost: Members $10, visitors $12. Bookings: 99742918.
