CONGESTION at the intersection of Tarneit and Shaws roads is a growing problem for Wyndham residents, says the Heathdale Residents Association.
During morning and evening peak hours, the intersection is jammed with traffic struggling to get through the roundabout.
Association spokeswoman Maggie McInnes said the presence of Werribee Village shopping centre at the intersection had made the traffic worse. Wyndham Council’s 2011 traffic volumes report found that almost 9000 vehicles a day used that section of Shaws Road, while more than 14,000 vehicles travelled along Tarneit Road daily. Mrs McInnes said the congestion was causing frustration for motorists and urged the state government to improve the intersection. She believes the roundabout needs to be replaced with traffic lights to make travel through the intersection “fairer”.
“The roundabout does not give a fair go to traffic as it tends to be more Shaws Road than Tarneit, and the frustration [it creates] causes motorists to take chances which is dangerous.”
