THREE people including a five-year-old girl were injured in a three-car crash in Point Cook last week.
A Seabrook woman, 41, was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with chest and spinal injuries.
The girl and a man were treated at Werribee Mercy Hospital for minor facial cuts, grazes and seatbelt injuries.
The incident happened at the corner of Sneydes Road and Florey Avenue in Point Cook at 3.15pm last Wednesday.
Point Cook resident Rajiv Rana, who was driving the third car, said he felt fortunate the crash didn’t injure anyone in his family.
“My kids were crying in the back seats,” he said.
Police, paramedics and the fire brigade were called on to manage traffic and clear shattered car parts from the road.
Investigations into the incident continue.
Meanwhile, a B-double truck toppled over on the Forsyth Road bridge last Monday and caused major traffic disruptions.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the male driver, aged in his 40s, suffered no major injuries.
Traffic was diverted on Forsyth Road in both directions from 10.30am until after 1pm.
RoadSafe West Gate chairman Jim Giddings said the stretch of Forsyth Road between Old Geelong Road and the overpass to Point Cook was a “fatality waiting to happen”.
“What VicRoads has done is dropped the speed limit to 60km/h, but that’s just a Band-Aid solution,” Mr Giddings said.
“You can stand on that stretch watching the traffic and it’s amazing there aren’t more accidents given the sheer volume of traffic and the bad design of the road.”
Mr Giddings said Wyndham’s
dangerous roads and the incidence of car crashes demonstrated how the western growth areas were missing out on much-needed VicRoads money for upgrades.
