Draining day for moggy in Laverton North factory

A female kitten has its nine lives intact, thanks to the teamwork of a Point Cook vet, Wyndham Council and the fire brigade.

The council pound called veterinarian Karen Davies (pictured) to a Laverton North factory about 10am on Friday after the feral cat was found with its head stuck in the small drainage hole of a large industrial bin.

“We went out there, had a look, and anaesthetised the cat, but there was no way I could manoeuvre her out without any help,” Dr Davies said.

A CFA crew arrived but couldn’t cut the grating because the steel would have heated up and killed the cat.

“Eventually, one of the firefighters, with a bit more force on his fingers, helped me gently compress down on her jawbone and we freed her,” Dr Davies said.

The cat is expected to make a full recovery before being put up for adoption.
