VAFA: Werribee Districts in shock loss

WERRIBEE Districts suffered a shock loss in the Victorian Amateur Football League premier B division.

Facing the winless Oakleigh, the Tigers – who are in the top four – were expected to take the points, but lost in a close game 13.12 (90) to 11.9 (75).

Oakleigh started the better, taking a 13-point lead into the the first break.

The next two terms saw the teams trade goals, as Oakleigh kept hold of the lead and going into the final term, led by six points.

Having seven scoring shots to five in the final term, Oakleigh extended the final margin to 15 points.

Aaron Taylor was the only multiple goal scorer for the Tigers with six.

In division 3, Old Westbourne was on the receiving end of 157-point thrashing against Yarra Valley, losing 28.20 (188) to 5.1 (31).

Yarra Valley dominated from the first quarter kicking six goals to two and the Warriors never recovered, kicking only five games for the match.

Hayden Iannacone kicked two goals for the Warriors and Scott Morrissey was named the best.

In division 4, Point Cook was too strong for Box Hill North, running out 108-point winners, 33.10 (208) to 15.10 (100).

After an even first quarter, Point Cook kicked away in the second term kicking seven

goals.

It then kicked 10 goals in each of the third and fourth terms, with 11 players getting on the scoreboard, led by Brenden Lucas who put through eight majors.

All teams have this weekend off with no play due to the long weekend.
