A WYNDHAM councillor has been given the chance to help with a national campaign aimed at securing more infrastructure funding for growth municipalities.
The National Growth Areas Alliance campaign will be rolled out in coming months and will target the government and opposition in the lead-up to the next federal election.
Cr John Menegazzo has been asked to be the campaign’s Victorian spokesman.
Cr Menegazzo said the NGAA was asking the next federal government to commit to a fund to deliver infrastructure in the nation’s 25 growth areas.
The role will involve speaking to federal MPs and bureaucrats and dealing with the state’s media.
Cr Menegazzo, who represented the council at last year’s NGAA conference, said he believed his role would help highlight Wyndham’s infrastructure shortfalls.
‘‘Given all the needs we have, I think it is a good opportunity to point out the infrastructure that [Wyndham] needs.
‘‘It will give us more exposure than we otherwise would get.’’
The NGAA hopes the campaign will secure more money for major projects such as roads and public transport.
Cr Menegazzo, who last week announced the construction of a pavilion at Wyndham Vale South Reserve, said he would also like to see sporting facilities and community infrastructure given more funding.
His ongoing involvement in the campaign will be dependent on his re-election in October’s municipal election.
