Walking on ‘unsafe ground’

A TARNEIT mother has taken Wyndham Council to task over an unsealed pathway she claims is dangerous after she slipped and fell while pregnant.

Kirrily Kratsis (pictured), who has two children with special needs, said she wanted to be able to use the walkway between West End Place and Sayers Road to walk to her doctor’s clinic.

“I have reported it to Wyndham Council after falling [in May] and it has only become worse … it is extremely dangerous,” she said.

“There’s a lot of businesses opening up in the area, shops are opening up, there’s a retirement village down the road so there are a lot of old people using the walkway and a lot of kids use the walkway from the school nearby.

“It’s really muddy, there’s a massive gap, I just want to be able to walk safely.”

Council’s acting chief executive Bill Forrest said a footpath would be built next year.

“Construction should occur in early 2013 as part of Wyndham City’s footpath program.

“Recent works undertaken for Melbourne Water involving the drainage reserve under Derrimut Road mean engineering work is required to make the construction of the extended footpath structurally sound.” —Nick Toscano
