Thirty-four Wyndham residents have been recognised for helping others, receiving ‘Above and Beyond’ awards from Prime Minister Julia Gillard last week.
Recipients included Committee for Wyndham executive director Nik Tsardakis, who has worked for more than 30 years to improve the opportunities and services provided to people in Wyndham; Wyndham Community and Education Centre settlement worker Say Htoo Eh Moero, who dedicates her time to supporting Wyndham’s Karen community; and members of the Camp Quality ‘X-Men’ team, who have a long history of raising money to help children with cancer.
Ms Gillard said each recipient had gone the extra mile to do things that made life easier for other people. “They don’t do these things because they have to, they do them because they want to make a difference.”
