Whether it’s responding to floods and road accidents or performing search and rescues or removing fallen trees after a storm, State Emergency Service volunteers dedicate countless hours to helping our community every year.
Most of us have seen them in action. You’ve probably stopped at one of the many Driver Reviver sites for a quick break on your way home from a holiday.
These volunteers are drawn from all walks of life, linked by a common desire to make a contribution to their community.
Last year, they responded to more than 28,000 calls and put in more than 146,000 hours across the state, making themselves available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Established in 1982, Werribee (now Wyndham) SES unit has been a welcome sight for residents. They’re always on the spot in times of need.
It’s been a busy 12 months for SES volunteers around Victoria, with many giving up last year’s Christmas Day celebrations to answer the call after wild storms struck Melbourne.
As part of National SES Week, residents are being encouraged to celebrate the efforts of the state’s 5500 volunteers who give up their time to keep us safe during or after emergencies.
Today is ‘Wear Orange Wednesday’, and you can show your support and say thanks to these volunteers by wearing orange or leaving a message on the SES website.
