Abuse commission welcome

Abuse commission welcome

The calling of the royal commission into the sexual abuse of children, and the bipartisan support offered, are welcome developments indeed.

The shocking testimonies of the sexual abuse of children in a variety of organisations, but especially by priests, demand that truth begin to prevail.

Many victims have suffered not only the abuse itself but the stonewalling of police investigations and cold treatment by the church.

Others have lost their lives as the inner pain became too much for them to bear.

The mandatory reporting of child abuse must extend also to the confessional box.

The cries of countless young victims have reach the ears of the Lord himself.

We as a society must also hear and respond to their cries.

Re: Werribee pool ready for summer (Weekly, November 14):

Pity the 32,000 residents of Point Cook won’t get easy use of a council pool this summer. Meanwhile, new suburbs like Derrimut get to enjoy the YMCA leisure centre for its residents. What is our new council going to do about this lack of service to ratepayers?Ripped off
