DEVELOPERS of the multimillion-dollar Wyndham Harbour project say Werribee South’s “hidden treasure” appeal has driven a surge in land sales.
Development director Sonya Miller said all 63 lots in the project’s first stage of releases had been sold, while 100 lots in the next two stages were being snapped up.
She said 104 lots in the Marina Quay apartment complex were also sold out after being met with huge buyer demand. Construction on the first houses will begin by January.
“People passing Wyndham Harbour will also be able to recognise the substantial progress on construction at the development, including the highly anticipated breakwater and local road networks.”
Point Cook couple Steve and Georgina Balnozan , who were among the first to settle on their land in October, hope to commence construction on their four-bedroom home at Wyndham Harbour within two years.
“Wyndham Harbour was our last chance to purchase something on the water in close proximity to the city and also in the western suburbs, which is where we have spent the past 30 years of our lives,” Ms Balnozan said.
Project manager Richard Trevisan said up to 85 per cent of buyers were from Melbourne’s northern and western suburbs.
“The age range is even broader than expected, going from people in their mid-20s to mid-60s.”
He hoped the harbour would become a world-class lifestyle, recreation and boating hub that would bring “new life” to the market garden district.
Mr Trevisan said the project would feature parks, walking and bike trails and a central marina square retail precinct, with restaurants, cafes and speciality stores to be built by late 2014.
“It’s not a gated community, it’s here for the residents, too.”
The $440 million project includes 200 housing lots, 200 apartments, 27 terrace houses and two beaches to the north and south.
