Wyndham growth: Grim picture of city

WYNDHAM Council hopes the state government will take notice of the problems plaguing growth areas, following the release of the One Melbourne or Two? report.

Mayor Heather Marcus (pictured) hailed the report as a true picture of what it was like to live in an interface area.

She said many issues raised were problems which Wyndham had been grappling with for years.

The report noted 96 families a week were moving to Wyndham, and 65 babies born each week – making it the fastest growing of the interface areas.

Cr Marcus said Wyndham’s biggest problems included a lack of local jobs, mental health services, schools and recreation facilities.

She was hopeful the development of the Werribee Employment Precinct would boost job opportunities in the city.

Congested roads in and around Wyndham where also a problem, which Cr Marcus said was contributing to the erosion of family time.
