The team’s the thing at Wynbay Power

WYNBAY Power players like Leroy Alexander are fine-tuning their skills in preparation for their first match in the RecLink Football League.

The team, which comprises Wyndham and Hobsons Bay residents, began training at Werribee’s Soldiers Reserve last Wednesday.

Coach Scott Sutton, a youth resource officer at Altona North police, said the team was working with the Western Bulldogs to prepare for the upcoming season.

He said many players were unemployed or had dropped out of school, while others were homeless or had been in trouble with police.

“The main benefit of the team is that it gives them a sense of belonging,” Leading Senior Constable Sutton said. “It encourages them to be thinking about team-mates and following the ref’s instructions. They have something to focus on, a positive outlet and a purpose.”

Training will be held at Soldiers Reserve, College Road, Werribee, every Wednesday until April 17, with new players welcome. More details: Rhonda on 0412 971 954.
