‘No plans’ for Point Cook Road duplication

VICROADS says it has no plans to duplicate Point Cook Road, despite the RACV claiming it is among the state’s most congested.

As reported by the Weekly, the RACV has asked the state government to allocate funding to duplicate sections of Point Cook, Dunnings and Palmers roads in this year’s budget.

It says the duplications would create a Seabrook bypass, easing traffic on Point Cook Road.

The organisation’s budget submission came as Wyndham Council revealed more than 25,000 vehicles use Point Cook Road each day, but VicRoads regional director Patricia Liew said there were no current plans to duplicate Point Cook Road.

She said the 2008 extension of Palmers Road from Dunnings Road to the Princes Freeway had reduced pressure on Point Cook Road and the extension of Palmers Road to Sayers Road would make commuting easier.

“The completion of the Palmers Road overpass will provide an additional key access point to the north and Williams Landing station will provide an alternative to the Aircraft and Laverton railway stations that are currently accessed via Point Cook Road.”

Ms Liew said VicRoads was investigating the need to improve other roads around Wyndham but would not say which were being considered.

The council has called for sections of Forsyth, Sayers, Point Cook, Heaths, Palmers, Derrimut, Leakes and Dohertys roads to be duplicated.

It has also criticised VicRoads and the government for failing to upgrade any of Wyndham’s VicRoads-controlled arterial roads in the past two years.
