RECALL — The Band has more than music in mind as it returns to where it started from.
Made up of five MFB firefighters and one of their wives, the band used to play in Sunbury over 15 years ago.
“We played together in bands years ago and decided to get back together again,” singer Bruce Matt says.
“I’ve known some of them since we were in recruits together and we used to play at the old Railway Hotel in Sunbury.
“We haven’t re-formed to make money but only for the love of playing music.”
Four members of the band live in the Sunbury and Macedon Ranges area.
Three of the members work in fire stations in the Moonee Valley area.
The band is also looking at holding concerts and raising money to help community groups buy defibrillators that may save lives.
“We get called out with the ambulance service. Generally, if it’s not a life-threatening [situation], we get turned out first.
“We use the defibrillators often and we know what impact they can have.
“We hope to donate the money raised from the show to buy the machines and then we will go into the clubs and teach them how to use it.”
The band plays classic rock, dance numbers, a few of the great “newbies”, but mainly “just good pub rock, dance and sing-along tunes”.
Matt says the band has always been a hit with women.
“Some of the ladies ask us if we have friends who are free, as everyone loves a firefighter.
“It’s a bit of fun for all of us. Some of the guys play in the MFB band Red, Red, Red, so this gives them another chance to get on stage.”
The band plays at the Sunbury United Sporting Club from 8.30pm on Saturday.
