POLICE are pleading for drivers to pay more attention on the road after a car crashed into the front of a Hoppers Crossing house.
The owners of the house on Hogans Road had left their living room to check on dinner only minutes before the car crashed through the window about 4.20pm last Thursday.
Police said the decision had prevented them from being seriously injured or killed.
Werribee’s Sergeant Chris Marsh said the car crashed into the house after its driver lost control.
He said the Hoppers Crossing man, 36, had been travelling east on the inside lane on Hogans Road when his car drifted to the left and hit a gutter five times, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The car then veered right, between two other vehicles, clipped a tree and went over the centre median strip into two lanes of oncoming traffic.
Sergeant Marsh said the car then hit a tree, moving it seven metres, before ploughing through the front window of the house.
The driver was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with a suspected broken ankle.
His passenger, a Hoppers Crossing man, 41, was taken to The Alfred hospital with head injuries.
Sergeant Marsh said police were yet to interview the driver but believed speed and either drugs or alcohol had contributed to the crash.
“It is absolutely amazing to us that he didn’t collide with westbound traffic on Hogans Road.
“Witnesses said he was travelling at excessive speed.
“It is a warning to other drivers that this is unnecessary. We are very fortunate that no one was injured or killed.”
He urged drivers to take more care on the road.
“We are asking people to be aware of other drivers around them.”
