GDFL: Montebruno on fire again for Werribee Centrals

TYREN Montebruno is red hot in front of goals for Werribee Centrals in the early rounds of the Geelong and District Football League Smiths Holden Cup.

Montebruno booted seven goals in the Centurions one-sided 96-point win over the Belmont Lions to take his season tally to 16 in three games.

The Centurions were eager to build on the good form they showed in the second round, but had to do it without injured ruckman Stephen Morgan, leaving the big-man duties to rest solely on the shoulders of Nathan Lovell.

Lovell answered the call of coach Luke Phipps, producing a standout performance in the middle and offering first use to the running brigade.

The Centurions banged on six goals to one in the first term and stretched their lead to nine goals by half-time.

There was no stopping them from registering back to back wins with Michael Knight, Brad McNicol and Matthew Taylor featuring prominently.

The Centurions return home to Galvin Park on Saturday for a bout with ladder leader Bell Post Hill, the only remaining undefeated team in the top flight. — Lance Jenkinson
