VICTORIA’S busiest volunteer fire brigade is preparing to celebrate 100 years of service.
But before the Werribee CFA brigade finalises plans for a reunion in 2015, members want to learn more about its history.
Captain Michael Wells is calling on former volunteers or family members to get in touch.
“We’ve got a lot of our recent history written down, but we haven’t got a lot of information about the early members,” he said.
“We are looking for people who were members or knew people who were members pre-1950.”
Mr Wells said the brigade planned to hold a reunion featuring a display of memorabilia.
“We still have the original bell the Chirnside family gave to the brigade and had crafted in Scotland.
“If anyone has other memorabilia they could donate for a display, we would be grateful.”
The brigade has had several homes in the past 98 years, including in Watton Street and at the old shire offices.
Mr Wells said the brigade had played an important role in Werribee’s history and its members were proud to serve the community.
He said the brigade, which includes Wyndham’s only road rescue team, was always looking for members.
