Shock as body found in Tarneit after street fight

UPDATE: Neighbours are in shock after a man was found dead in a quiet suburban street in Tarneit.

Police were called to Felicity Drive about 11pm last night, following reports of a street fight, where they found the body of a man in his 30s.

A man, 35, who lives at the property was arrested overnight.

A woman in her 20s who stays at the address is assisting police.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Hatt said charges would not be determined until an autopsy was conducted later today.

He said those involved in the street fight were known to one another.

Police do not believe a weapon was used.

Sergeant Hatt said the victim was from another part of Victoria.

Detectives this morning searched a black BMW parked outside the house for fingerprints and scoured the property for evidence.

Neighbour Anuraj Singh said he was shocked when police and paramedics rushed into their street last night.

‘‘My wife saw the ambulance and I was confused by what was going on. I came out … and was a bit shocked at what was going on. A police officer came out and told me a man was dead.’’

Dut Deng, a father-of-two who lives opposite the address, said the incident had left him worried for his young children.

‘‘When we moved in here in September last year, we thought it was a very quiet neighbourhood,’’ he said.

‘‘We thought it was a good place to live, but when you see things like this … it’s terrible.’’

Nearby resident, Billie, who did not want her surname used, said she heard loud fighting erupt in the street last night.

‘‘It’s very scary what happened,’’ she said.

‘‘Something like this shouldn’t happen here, but I think the area is getting rougher.  It makes you fearful for your kids.’’
