A MAN has been charged with murder after a body was found at Tarneit on Thursday night.
Homicide squad detectives charged Kritsingh Dookhea, 35, of
Tarneit, with one count of murder during an out-of-sessions court
hearing at a custody centre on Friday night.
Mr Dookhea was
charged after police conducted an autopsy, and was he remanded to appear
before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.
The body of a man aged in his 30s was found at his house in
Felicity Drive, Tarneit, at about 11pm on Thursday after police
responded to reports of a street fight.
Detectives cordoned
off part of Felicity Drive, Tarneit, for most of the following day while
they searched a black BMW parked outside for fingerprints and scoured
the street for evidence.
Neighbour Anuraj Singh said he was shocked when police and paramedics rushed into their street.
‘‘My
wife saw the ambulance and I was confused by what was going on. I came
out … and was a bit shocked at what was going on. A police officer
came out and told me a man was dead.’’
Dut Deng, a father-of-two who lives opposite the address, said the incident had left him worried for his young children.
‘‘When we moved in here in September last year, we thought it was a very quiet neighbourhood,’’ he said.
‘‘We thought it was a good place to live, but when you see things like this … it’s terrible.’’
Nearby resident, Billie, who did not want her surname used, said she heard loud fighting erupt in the street.
‘‘It’s very scary what happened,’’ she said.
‘‘Something like this shouldn’t happen here, but I think the area is getting rougher. It makes you fearful for your kids.’’
