Big V: Werribee Devils’ consistency wins points

WERRIBEE Devils did not waiver in a level-headed 81-75 win over Hume City Broncos in the Big V basketball men’s championship at Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre on Saturday night.

The Devils were neck and neck with the Broncos throughout, but broke the game open in the third quarter on the back of a stellar defensive effort.

They conceded just 10 points in the period.

The Devils’ consistency from start to finish is what got them over the line.

Josh Oswald was the most prolific Devil with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while stat sheet stuffer Jordan Hughes produced 20 points and five rebounds.

Back-to-back wins has elevated the Devils into fifth and in touch with the top four clubs.

In women’s division 2, Werribee Devils came back from a three-quarter-time deficit to beat Melbourne University 52-48.

The win will certainly be traced back to an extraordinary second period, in which they restricted the Black Angels to a measly two points on 1-from-16 shooting.

Lisa Troyahn banked another double double for the Devils with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

BIG V SCORES

Men: Werribee Devils 81 Hume City Broncos 75.
